To aid installers with this query, Gates provide some guidance on the usage of these codes: Every European chassis number has 17 positions:
In the Gates catalogue only the last 11 positions are mentioned:
Position 9 and 11 become ‘-‘ and position 10 indicates the model year (in this case 2000) 1996 = T, 1997 = V, 1998 = W, 1999 = X, 2000 = Y, 2001 = 1, 2002 = 2, 2003 = 3 etc. Example Audi A4, 2.0 FSi, 20V, Engine Code: AWA Chassis Number: WAUZZZ8E53A397722
How to use the information: 1. Disregard the first 6 positions – these indicate the make and model of the vehicle which you would already know 2. Positions 7 and 8 start the number in the Gates catalogue:

4. Look up the relevant kit in the Gates catalogue, in this case there is a choice of two – K015616XS being the correct choice.
