Vehicle Bodywork Preparation

‘Paint’ can broadly be defined to include all types of surface protection coatings used for decorative, industrial, marine and various special purpose finishes.

Comprising of: resins, pigments, solvents and additives, paint will coat a surface, and when dry, protect and decorate it. Solvents assist in controlling the viscosity as well as ensuring that it dries at the correct rate to produce a smooth level finish.

Aerosols provide a particularly convenient, clean, self-contained, ready-to-use method of applying product coating. In the case of aerosol coatings, the canister will contain a complex blend of paint, solvent and propellant. Each component plays an important part in producing the professional finish demanded by the automotive refinish market. A propellant is used to control both the viscosity and rate at which the paint and solvent blend is released from the canister.

Volatile Organic Compounds

The Autotek range of products are all compliant with the ‘Volatile Organic Compounds’ (VOC) regulation (2004/42II B9e), which sets limits on the maximum VOC content of coatings.

  • The ‘Max’ range has the lowest VOC in its category, demonstrating its environmental credentials
  • VOCs increase low level ozone and photochemical smog
  • Vehicle refinish coatings contribute less than 0.5% of the total amount of VOCs emitted in the UK

Autotek Paints

Autotek is a premium brand consisting of “1K” aerosol paint products. The range caters for the majority of priming and specialist painting applications.

The ‘Max’ range has been specially designed to give bodyshops the best possible coverage: up to 65% more coverage when compared to leading competitors’ aerosol products. The spray pattern has been engineered to suit both the professional sprayer and enthusiast, allowing a softer style of spray which is less likely to produce runs, increases paint build and gives a professional finish similar to that achieved by a spray gun.

All Autotek aerosol paints are fast drying and can typically be re-coated within 15 minutes, allowing faster completion of jobs. The primers offer highbuild characteristics to fill minor scratches without sagging or runs, negating the use of fillers for small jobs. It is also easily sandable for an ultrasmooth professional finish – the perfect base for top-coat application.

Very High Temperature (VHT) Paints

VHT products have been specially formulated using a bodyshop-safe, silicone modified, temperature resistant resin. The VHT paints withstand temperatures of up to 650˚C and can be used on areas such as exhaust manifolds.

Clear Lacquer

Clear Lacquer has good adhesion, is resistant to UV light and can be used on a wide variety of substrates, including pre-painted surfaces, metals and wood.

Petrol Resistant Lacquer

Petrol Resistant Lacquer is ideal for use in areas where the painted surface requires additional protection against contact with petrol.

Bumper & Trim

Formulated to provide excellent adhesion, flexibility and weatherability to bumpers and trim.

Wheel Paint

A range of finishes designed to match existing wheel finishes. The silver, alloy and steel are acrylic based. The wheel lacquer is formulated on a tough polyurethane modified resin.

Autotek Max Primers & Top-Coat Range

Max Primers

Max primers benefit from using the latest acrylic resin technology to protect the surface and provide a base for the top-coat. They are fast drying and best applied using a series of light coats and can be used over existing OEM finishes, prepared steel and polyester fillers.

Max Top-Coat

The adjustable fan nozzle produces a soft conical spray which offers the sprayer greater control and a superior finish. Use over primed surfaces to produce the required durable colour and finish.

These acrylic formulations have excellent ultra violet resistance and will not yellow.
