Wet Braking

Brake Caliper A Growing Market

The number of cars being fitted with brake calipers is growing, and so too is Remy’s range.

Today’s remanufactured brake calipers are as good as the OE equivalent and represent one of the few organically growing replacement parts markets. Many vehicles now have four calipers – one on each wheel – offering fantastic value as a replacement part. However, because they are a safety critical item it is essential that factors and installers select a brand they can be totally confident in.

One of the main causes of caliper failure is corrosion, which is caused by the water and salt found on our roads during winter. As a result, caliper sales rise during the spring month so it is great news that Remy has just announced the addition of 150 new part references to its range. These new additions take its brake caliper range to nearly 3,500 part numbers. New applications cover many popular vehicles, including Audi, BMW, Citroën, Ford, Jaguar, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Toyota, Vauxhall and Volkswagen.

Quality as standard

Brake calipers are a safety critical product, and – as an OE manufacturer – Remy has an OE approach to the quality of the products which it supplies to the aftermarket. Every Remy brake caliper is remanufactured to OE specification under ISO 9001:2008 quality management standards - 100% new pistons, bushes and seals as well as other wearing components are fitted from its in-house production to ensure superior quality. All castings are plated to BS EN 12329 - chrome 6 free zinc passivated - in compliance with current legislation

Every caliper undergoes numerous stringent tests and processes to produce an OE equivalent unit, utilising the most advanced test equipment. This ensures that Remy provides the highest quality available in the market. Remy is confident that its remanufactured brake calipers are as good as the OE equivalent. Every caliper it supplies comes with an individual test certificate, together with fitting kits where necessary.

Remy offers a 24 month warranty on all of its products from the date of fitment, however, its warranty returns rate is very low, at less than 1%. If a unit is returned as a warranty Remy has Field Engineers available to support its customers. These engineers can also help customers identify the source of system failures. Symptoms can often point to more than one component, and Remy can help customers assess if caliper problems are caused by the failure of the part itself, or if something else on the car is causing the problem.

Remy Automotive is a leader in the UK caliper market and has been seeing constant sales growth with this product group and a building of its market share. In addition, Remy is seeing an ever larger percentage of cars being fitted with rear brake calipers – even on smaller vehicles – which is also stimulating the market.
