Diesel Low Pressure Test Kit

With the continued growth of diesel vehicles in recent years, maintenance and understanding of these systems is obviously becoming more and more important in the automotive industry.

To account for this growth in diesel fuel, Laser tools have recently introduced a number of diesel technology based tools - part number 5259 is a Common Rail Diesel Low Pressure Test Gauge Set that is suitable for Peugeot, Citroen and Renault and comes complete with 8mm and 10mm connectors. The gauge is used for testing the fuel line pressure between the fuel tank and high pressure pump, suitable also for pressure-fed systems (fuel delivery via in-tank pump). It can also be used on the return side; by measuring both feed and return, injector faults and blocked pipes can be diagnosed (excessive return pressure can cause a no-start situation).

The gauge itself is a high quality item, fluid-filled and features a dual scale: up to 11 bar or 160psi. A pressure relief valve and drain tube is included for clean and safe depressurisation.

The procedure for using the testing kit is as follows:

Step 1

The tester should be placed in-line between the fuel tank and the high pressure pump. A convenient place is in the engine bay between the fuel filter and the pump. Care must be taken not to attempt to connect to the high pressure side. Switch on the ignition for 5 seconds or so to let the system self-bleed. Repeat this operation.

Step 2

Then start the engine and the fuel line pressure can be read on the gauge. Refer to the manufacturer’s data for correct figures to diagnose faults.

Step 3

To finish, place the drain tube into a suitable container and purge the fuel line pressure before disconnecting the tester.
