Switches & Sensors

Door Light Switch

  • Actuates the door light when the door is opened

Troubleshooting:

  • Symptoms:
    •  Door light does not come on when the door is opened

Possible causes for failure

  • Circuit broken between switch and light
  • Low battery power

Testing:

  1. Locate the switch contained in the vehicle door and check that both wires are securely connected to the switch. If this is not the case the switch will not activate the door light.
  1. Next, ensure that the switch is depressed when the door is shut; if this is not aligned properly the switch will not be activated.
  1. If neither wire registers a voltage this indicates that the wiring to the switch is the issue and will need to be checked accordingly.
  1. If the above checks do not show any issues with the connections the wiring will need to be tested. For this you will need a voltmeter.
  1. Firstly connect the positive wire to one of the wires connected to the switch. If the voltmeter registers 12 volts then the feed wire for the switch has been located. If not, this wire should show no voltage until the car door is closed.

  2. Once depressed the voltmeter should register 12 volts which suggests the switch it operating correctly. If this is not the case the switch will need replacing.
