New Battery Range from GS Batteries

GS Yuasa has recently launched a new range of batteries which provides a comprehensive automotive battery solution for the UK and pan-European markets. James Hylton, Sales and Marketing Manager for GS Yuasa’s European Automotive Division, tells us more.

During the winter period, low temperatures have a dramatic effect on vehicle batteries reducing performance by up to 60% in severe cold weather, often resulting in failure and the vehicle not starting. Battery sales thrive during winter and it is vital that the battery quality and specification meets the needs of the many additional electrical requirements of modern day vehicles.

Designed to meet the demanding needs of modern vehicles, the new GS automotive range provides superior performance & excellent value. The range features three GS Battery types – SMF (Sealed Maintenance Free), EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) Start Stop and the AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) Start Stop Plus.

GS is the leading automotive battery brand in Asia & many other parts of the world. European customers can now enjoy outstanding reliability & power, perfected over a century of GS battery development.

The new GS automotive battery range was launched in November 2017 and covers over 98% of the total European car parc.

Q. What makes the GS rebrand appealing to the motor factors?

James Hylton (JH): Our new GS automotive battery range is designed to meet the needs of the ever-evolving modern car parc and offers a complete battery solution for the aftermarket.

With a fresh new livery and case designs, the simplified, three-tier range itself is comprehensive, encompassing micro hybrid vehicles – both Asian (Japanese JIS sized) and European (DIN sized) Start Stop plus AGM) and Start Stop EFB types.

Q. Are there any additional ranges as well?

JH: We offer a comprehensive line-up of auxiliary and back up batteries with 12 references fitting such vehicles as Toyota Yaris, Auris & Prius, Lexus CT200h & IS300h, Mercedes E Class & S Class, Honda Insight, CRZ, Volvo DRIVe, BMW 7 series and many more. A wide range of additional products and services including chargers for consumers and workshops and Golf, Mobility and ProSpec semi-traction range of batteries are also available. Moreover, the GS battery range includes Garden, Leisure and Marine and Commercial Vehicle batteries.

Q. How do GS stand-out against competitors?

JH: As an Original Equipment manufacturer, all GS aftermarket batteries offer unrivalled levels of performance and extended service life. All automotive batteries from GS feature Calcium/Calcium (CaCa) technology, along with a range of advanced technology and safety features.

Q. What steps has GS taken towards compliance with the EUROBAT labelling legislation?

JH: The legislation directs that battery labels must reflect a A (EN) (Cold Cranking Amp) and Ah (Ampere hour) rating accurately. For every reference, 100% of a supplier’s batteries must deliver the stated performance on the label within a 10% tolerance. The move was designed to combat unscrupulous importers/manufacturers who persistently over-rate the label specification.

In addition, alongside the common voltage (V), capacity (Ah) and cold cranking amps (A) ratings, all GS automotive batteries carry recently introduced EN50342-1/6 European Standard performance markings. Every battery in the range has undergone extensive testing to determine its performance. Having passed the requirements of several stringent tests, each battery has earned a classification number for Water Loss (W1 – W5), Charge Retention (C1 - C2), Vibration Level (V1-V4), Endurance (E1 – E4 Conventional types only) and Micro – Cycle (M1 – M3 EFB & AGM types only)

How does GS support the new product lines?

JH:  Used by over 80,000 mechanics and technicians, our Online Battery Lookup is Europe’s most powerful battery lookup system. With a host of unique advanced features, it allows users to not only find the right battery, but also access detailed technical and fitting information. It is designed to save fitters considerable time and money. It’s free to use online at batterylookup.gs-battery.com or GS’s USB Smart Button provides ultra-fast workshop access to the entire system.

Our GS YUFIT Battery Configurator allows workshops and retailers to ensure proper fitting of modern batteries and removes the possibility of incorrect specification batteries being fitted to vehicles with advanced technology such as start – stop.

Q. How do these support tools work?

JH: Fitters can simply enter the vehicle registration or search by make / model, VIN /chassis number or by uploading a photograph. The system provides battery type, capacity, location on vehicle, estimated fitting time and location of OBD socket. This is complemented by full OE level step-by-step fitting instructions that can also be printed out for convenience. When the fitment is complete, the new battery can be registered to the vehicle’s ECU as well as clearing any fault codes using YUFIT. The whole exercise takes only a couple of minutes.

With the assurance that all aftermarket batteries carrying the GS brand are manufactured to the exacting standards as those supplied for OE use, GS Battery ticks all the right boxes and is sure to charge up the aftermarket.
